What should I do for my cheshire cat costume?

Posted in Cat costumes on October 30th, 2010 by admin

Due to me just graduating from college and now being cheap (and considering most costumes for girls my age are $$$ or cheap n crappy or slutty) I decided to make a homemade costume.

I decided on the Cheshire cat from Alice and Wonderland. I bought a black and purple striped shirt to wear over black leggings with black boots. I just need ears and a tail. Unfortunately, I came up with the idea at a store and totally messed up the colors…the cat is pink and purple, not purple and black. I’m afraid nobody will know who I am supposed to be.

Should I buy pink and white cat ears (google cheshire cat ears)? Will it clash badly with the purple/black shirt? Should I just get purple cat ears? Wear pink/black tights instead? Wear pink tights? I’m at a loss!
Here are the ears I was talking about:

Here’s the purple/black shirt: http://www.target.com/Mossimo-Black-Stripe-Shirttail-Purple/dp/B003PIX2VI/ref=br_1_3?ie=UTF8&node=2182523011&sessionID=190-7002794-7369267&searchSize=30&searchView=grid3&searchPage=1&sr=1-3&qid=1287799107&rh=target_com_brand-bin%3AMossimo%20Black&searchBinNameList=target_com_category-bin%2Cstyle_name%2Csleeve_type%2Ccollar_style-bin%2Clifestyle-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1
I KNOW the cheshire cat is purple/pink….that’s the problem. I originally thought it was purple/black, so I bought stuff for that. I just don’t know if I had pink to it if it’ll look bad.

Basically, I want to know if the stuff in the links I added match or not lol.

What Are Some Good Halloween Costumes For Me??

Posted in Cat costumes on October 25th, 2010 by admin

No witches, ghosts, skeletons, pumpkins or anything common. No Princess costumes or animals (like a cute cat, but no). Nothing like a character from Hairpray, harry Potter, or High School Musical/Camp Rock. Nothing horror or adult-ish. No fairies. Something unusual and unique. I am 12.
Once I was a pumpkin, it was cute! And a candy corn!
Those are cool, and un-common.
This costume should be unusual but on a website or in a catalog.
Thanks!!

What Materials Are Good For Sewing Your Own Female Fantasy/Comic/Video Game Costumes?

Posted in Cat costumes on October 19th, 2010 by admin

I’m no sewing-expert, nor I have any good experience with sewing (Maybe a little bit in school) but I’m curious- what sort of materials do people use to sew costumes? And by costumes, I don’t mean those cheap renting costumes, I mean what those female fantasy/comic/video game characters wear such as Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Black Cat, Poison Ivy, Batgirl, etc. Do they wear the cotton type or those swimsuit kinda fabric? Is it easy to make? Please elaborate more. I’m excited to hear about it.

Updated note: Thanks for the feedback. What about the swimsuit materials? What is it called and is it useful to create a real catsuit-like costumes like in the comics?

Does anyone know a site to buy cheap leotards for halloween costumes?

Posted in Cat costumes on October 14th, 2010 by admin

I’ve been searching, I’m looking for one like this:

(That picture is really creepy, I know. But that is what I’m looking for)

I’m trying to make a black cat costume. I’d prefer vinyl, though the cut is what I really like.

Cat Costume For School Play?

Posted in Cat costumes on October 11th, 2010 by admin

Hey~,

So, our school is producing a play based on the famous children’s tale, Puss in Boots. I am in charge of the art department, and I’m wondering where I can find a good costume for Puss. She is female, about 5′ 4” , and is quite busty. Are there any costumes out there? We were hoping for the costume to be orange and cream coloured, like in Shrek, or something of the like.

I could possibly sew something, but fur fabric is quite pricey, especially if we want it striped orange and cream…

If there aren’t any found, could you give me some ideas on how to sew it/make it?

Thank you all in advance~! <3

Is it cruel to dress cats in costumes?

Posted in Cat costumes on October 8th, 2010 by admin

Dogs don’t seem to mind it but cats flop over on the floor in protest. I haven’t dressed one since I was a child and now there are hundreds of costumes for cats.
Mittens for cats….I think there are profits to be made with that idea…………

What is the best sweat-resistant option for making a cat nose and whiskers for Halloween?

Posted in Cat costumes on October 2nd, 2010 by admin

I’m looking to avoid halloween oil-based makeup if possible. Would black eyeliner do the trick? I sweat like a dog in costumes, and just want to avoid having the makeup smudge and run…
